Industry accepted rules of thumb is what stood in the way of the contact center manager's genius.  By creating new rules and in an unheard of solution, throwing industry standards out the window, service level immediately climbed from the mid-60's to a sustainable 80%, leading to industry awards.  Suddenly instead of working 10-12 hour days, the task of managing service level fell to a few hours a day - and much relief from an exhausted, stressed team.


When exchange rates flipped from favoring US to Canadian currency, getting paid in American dollars but Canadian dollars to employees suddenly became a problem.  An exchange gap was created as the dollar coming in couldn't match the dollar going out - a problem easy to dismiss as being too large, too out of control of this small manufacturer.  By accepting the problem, and delving into it, a solution was created to convert Canadian accounts in a similar situation from Canadian to American, helping buffer suppliers from fluctuating exchange rates in the process.  No longer was revenue lost in exchanging dollars.

What's This For?

To drill or punch? The purpose of the hole was not relevant to the automotive experts who knew the process decision would have no effect on the product, who were following management directions, the question to the purpose had not been raised or answered.  The hole, initially required, was no longer and could simply be eliminated.  The solution was not over until the reason why this information had not already been known was answered and fixed.
